TechXcite
TechXcite, a national engineering after-school program sponsored by the National Science Foundation [NSF], is a partnership between the Duke Pratt School of Engineering, National and North Carolina 4-H, and the National Science & Technology Education Partnership [NSTEP]. The TechXcite Discover Engineering curriculum offers a rich and vibrant exploration of science and technology. Curriculum topics include alternative energy sources, architecture, biotechnology, digital imaging, geographic information systems & global positioning systems [GIS/GPS], transportation and wireless communication. The curriculum will offer approx. 5000 middle school youths and 250 4-H leaders annually opportunities to learn principles of moderm technology and real-world applications via team-based 4-H activities.

Techtronics
Techtronics is an after-school science enrichment program where students are introduced to four branches of engineering: Electrical and Computer, Biomedical, Civil and Mechanical. Through hands-on projects such as building solar powered cars, heart monitors, robots, AM radios and balsa wood structures, students learn how to work in teams to form ideas and bring those ideas to life.

MUSIC (Math Understanding through Science Integrated with Curriculum)
MUSIC is a curriculum enhancement program funded by the National Science Foundation that focuses on the integration of engineering problem solving with the standard course of study. MUSIC places graduate and undergraduate Teaching Fellows from the Pratt School of Engineering and the Duke University Marine Lab in elementary and middle schools across NC. The Teaching Fellows spend 10 hours per week at their partnership school assisting teachers with the creation and delivery of hands-on activities that provide meaningful contexts in which children apply math and science concepts.

Project Lead the Way
Forging New Generations of Engineers
Project Lead the Way, a national pre-engineering program for middle and high school students, seeks to create dynamic partnerships with our nation's schools to prepare an increasing and more diverse group of students to be successful in engineering and engineering technology programs. Courses such as Digital Electronics, Introduction to Engineering Design, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Biotechnical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering offer students the opportunity to apply math and science concepts to real world problem solving while earning credit that is transferable to colleges and universities across the nation. Project Lead the Way also provides extensive professional development for teachers and school counselors.
NC Project Lead the Way
PLTW and NC Department of Public Instruction are partnered with Duke's Pratt School of Engineering to implement the PLTW pre-engineering program of study in NC middle and high schools.

TeachEngineering
TeachEngineering Digital Library
Launched in January 2005, TeachEngineering is an extensive collection of K-12 curricular units that integrate engineering concepts with lessons and activities supporting national and state curriculum standards. Part of the National Science Digital Library program, the project is a collaboration between Duke University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Worcestor Polytechnic Institute, Colorado School of Mines, and Oregon State Unversity. The TeachEngineering Digital Library provides an opportunity for engineering educators from other institutions to publish their curriculum and provide it as a free online resource to K-12 teachers and engineering college faculty. TASC
TASC (Teachers and Scientists Collaborating)
TASC's purpose is to provide North Carolina K-8 students with opportunities to learn to think as scientists: critically, creatively, and independently. TASC supports teachers shift toward inquiry-based science teaching, an effective tool for helping all students learn. TASC can help science educators in a variety of ways, ranging from introducing a few teachers to inquiry-based curriculum to helping a whole school system affordably implement full-scale reform. TASC is funded by the National Science Foundation and supported by GlaxoSmithKline, Progress Energy and the Pratt School of Engineering.

TASC provides intensive professional development in the use of selected curriculum units and inquiry-based teaching techniques. The program supplies and refurbishes the curriculum units and provides support from scientists trained to help teachers use specific curriculum units. To date, TASC has trained approximately 2000 NC teachers per year over the past 5 years.

TechXplore
Sponsored by the National Science and Technology Education Partnership (NSTEP), teams of middle and high school students are partnered with mentors from industry to solve technology-oriented problems pertinent to the mentors' companies. TechXplore gives students the opportunity to apply their math and science skills to real-world problems, guided by an industrial scientist.
Think Tek Learning Labs

Sponsored by Steven Winter and Associates, Inc, the Think Tek Learning Labs create a comprehensive informal technology education program for middle and high school students that integrates math and science. The lab serves middle and high school students and teachers through after-school and Saturday classes, exploration, design and construction, and interaction with a variety of scientists, technologies and learning materials.

MUSCLE (Math Understanding through the Science of Life)
The grant period for MUSCLE, a curriculum enhancement program funded by the GE Foundation ended in May 2007. The success of MUSCLE led to the creation of the NSF funded MUSIC program. See MUSIC for details.
